Michel and Maja are adventurous. They are so adventurous that they moved to Sweden to run a camping for 8 years, and came back to the Netherlands without a solid plan. In 2014, they stumbled upon a lovely property in the Frisian village Rijs, close to the beautiful Rijsterbos. Michel and Maja bought the property, turned it into a Bed & Breakfast, and named it 'B&B Rijsterbosch'.

B&B Rijsterbosch is not just a Bed & Breakfast. Their incentive is: make it a stay to remember! Michel says: "We think personal attention is really important. Upon arrival, we'll show them the rooms, the dining room and we'll tell them something about the Rijsterbos. When there's time, and we like to make time for it, we go drink a cup of coffee with them!"

 

Michel and Maja's world got turned upside down when they moved from Sweden to Holland and went from camping to Bed & Breakfast. For their B&B, they didn't use any software; they had to update the room availability manually. And, because they were connected to different booking channels, overbookings were inevitable…

I don't have to constantly check my mailbox anymore. I just have a look at it in the evening!"

 

But, RoomRaccoon does more. Michel is pleased to tell: "We don't have overbookings anymore! And we count more direct bookings. At the moment, 25-30% of all our reservations come from a direct booking, and compared to last year, this number grew by 20-25%!"

Michel has a little warning for his fellow hoteliers: "Guests in peak season are stressed and they expect a lot. The overall impression must be good! Let me give you an example: whenever the weather is bad or other things do not go as planned, guests tend to give us a lower rating in peak season." But, on the contrary: "I meet people from different countries and it's nice to talk to them about cultural differences. For instance, I always have to explain why the deck of our Frisian farms have a red and black deck" says Michel amusing.
